Florals for June!
Perhaps this is not very groundbreaking, but this month I’m featuring some of my flower-focused photos (and alliteration!).
Provincetown’s sandy soil and humid and warm (but not usually scorchingly hot) climate create great conditions for many kinds of trees, shrubs, and flowers. The growing season starts slowly, but once we get to late May and into June things really start popping.
In early June, the beach roses get going, and you can smell them throughout town, and especially at the beaches (they are invasive, so I probably shouldn’t be celebrating them too much). By late June a lot of the hedges are flowering, and that scent floats through the side streets and backyards.
We are lucky to have a sizable yard, and lots of space for hedges and flowers. I’m the resident gardener, and our flowers are going like gangbusters right now. We just bought a few raised cedar planters, and we had sprouts just five days after I assembled the planters, filled them with dirt, and sowed seeds (mostly wildflowers).
Besides photography, gardening is my favorite hobby. I love to be in the yard and among the plants, and learning what works where on our property. Often, the answer is that something doesn’t work, but I will try many times to find a solution–but I’ve also learned it’s healthy to eventually let go and listen to nature.

I like this assortment of pictures, in part because it shows the diversity of the flowers here, as well as how different the light can look depending on the time of day and skies overhead.
I’m somewhat old-fashioned in my photography, as I don’t heavily edit to make them have all the same look and feel. I try to show you, dear viewers and readers, what life really looks like.
